Common Window Types Found In Residential Construction:
Double Hung"Double - Hung" refers to the sash operation and means there are two operable sashes in the window; one upper sash and one lower sash. A standard double-hung window includes tilt-in sashes for easy cleaning, dual pane insulated glass, and are available in white or beige. Additional options are available for these window types including grids, more interior and exterior color options, more hardware color options, and more glazing options including triple-pane ultra performance. |

Sliding Windows"Sliding", "Gliding" or "Roller" windows refers again to the sash operation and means the sash(s) open to the right or left rather than raising the sash up as in a double-hung window. Typically; sliding windows come in either "2-lite" or "3-lite" versions. Which version is used is usually determined by the overall width of the opening. A standard 2-lite slider has one fixed and one operable sash and a standard 3-lite slider has one fixed sash and two operable sashes. Standard sliding windows have dual pane insulated glass and are available in white or beige. Additional options are available including grids, more interior and exterior colors, more hardware options, and more glazing options including triple-pane ultra performance. |

Casement Windows"Casement" windows operate differently than "hung" or "sliding" window types. A casement is a single sash window that is operated by a hand crank on the inside. The sash is hinged on one side and opens like a door. When the crank is turned, the sash opens to the outside of the house. The screen is on the interior side of the window rather than the exterior as is the case with "hung" or "sliding" windows. Standard casement windows have dual pane insulated glass and are available in white or beige. Additional options are available including grids, more interior and exterior colors, more hardware options, and more glazing options including triple-pane ultra performance. |
